DOST-JST Call for Joint Proposals on Disaster Prevention and Resilience under the NEXUS Program (ASEAN)

The Department of Science and Technology is pleased to announce that the 2026 Joint Call for Research Proposals on Disaster Prevention and Resilience supported by the DOST-Philippines and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the NEXUS Program of Japan (Networked, Exchanged, United Strength for Stronger Partnerships between Japan and ASEAN) is now open for applications.

Currently in its 3rd implementation phase, JST and DOST are supporting joint projects through strategic project support measures to promote cooperation between Japan and the Philippines. A maximum of three (3) research projects will be jointly funded in this Call to achieve the following objectives:

  • To contribute to scientific advancement by conducting bilateral research (including conferences/seminars) in the identified priority research fields;
  • To facilitate the exchange of expertise, technology, and best practices between Japanese and Filipino researchers to mutually enhance R&D capabilities; and
  • To provide opportunities for young researchers from Japan and the Philippines to meet, interact, and exchange ideas to build a robust S&T community in the region.

JST and DOST are looking to support research within the following subtopics within the field of “Disaster Prevention and Resilience.”

Subtopics:

  1. Prediction of High-Impact Weather (HIW);
  2. Integrated Understanding, Modeling, and Simulation of Super Typhoons and Related Disasters;
  3. Development of AI-Based Data-Driven Regional Weather and Disaster Prediction Technologies

Below is the target timeline of the Call:

Call announcement: July 15, 2026 at 1:00 PM (JST) / 12:00 PM (PHT)

Deadline of submission: September 15, 2026 at 6:00 PM(JST)/ 05:00PM (PHT)

Evaluation period: September to December

Expected selection results announcement: January 2027 (tentative)

Expected start of granted projects: April 2027 (tentative)

For the 2026 Call, the DOST shall allocate a maximum of Php15Miliion/project to support the research activities of Filipino researchers, which are to be completed within three (3) years (or 36 months)
