Forest products are being eyed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as natural and cost-effective protection against mosquito-borne diseases.

Experts from the DOST-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) have looked at the potential of cinnamon barks, and pili, and almaciga resins made into incense cones and sticks as insect repellent. The materials used are process residues or wastes from essential oil production, and naturally possess insect-repelling properties.

The National Astronomy Week (NAW) kicked off last February 16, 2025 highlighting how astronomy connects to music, art, film, climate change, and even mental health.

The celebration ran until February 22 with 73,000 participants tuned in to watch the opening ceremony streamed live on DOST-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration official Facebook page. This year, DOST-PAGASA along with the Philippine Astronomical Society Inc (PAS), and the Astronomical League of the Philippines Inc (ALP).

In the 10th anniversary celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through its Gender and Development Unit (GADU), hosted a hybrid career planning forum titled “Unboxing STEM Professions: A Day in the Life of Women in Science” on February 11, 2025, at the PHIVOLCS Auditorium, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Diliman, Quezon City. The event aimed to emphasize the vital role of women in scientific innovation and to highlight the numerous opportunities available for their advancement in STEM fields.
