To enhance disaster preparedness in Northern and Central Luzon against earthquakes and tsunamis, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has launched the Disaster Narratives for Experiential Knowledge-based Science Communication, or DANAS Sourcebook, written in the Ilokano language.
The sourcebook was developed by the DOST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) in collaboration with Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University in La Union, the University of the Philippines – Visayas, and DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development.

Advancing food research through NICER laboratory

The Department of Science and Technology launches its Niche Centers in the Region or NICER in Functional Food called Kasanggang NICER in Functional Food Excellence (KNIF2E) Laboratory recently, marking a step forward for functional food research and development (R&D) in Western Visayas.
The DOST in cooperation with the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) and the University of San Agustin (USA) in Iloilo City demonstrated its strong commitment to using local agricultural resources to help advance health and nutrition priorities. The KNIF2E Laboratory aims to advance functional food R&D derived from sugarcane, legumes, lagundi, and cacao. The facility is set to conduct research to develop health-centered food products from the abundant crops in the Western Visayas Region.
DOST partners with Irradiation Solutions Inc. to advance radiation processing in the country

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Irradiation Solutions Inc, (ISI E-BEAM) on December 2, 2024, solidifying their partnership to advance radiation processing in the Philippines. The agreement marks a significant step toward stepping up electron beam (E-beam) technology for research, development, and innovation in the country.

Focusing on this year's theme, Oras Pinas: Tara Na! Kilos Na! This campaign calls on Filipinos to take decisive action towards personal and collective growth by reflecting and observing effective ways on time management, which could lead to empowered communities, enhanced productivity, and a secured future.
