The local information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) industry, a leading economic driver expecting $18 billion in revenues by the end of 2014 yet hounded by climate issues, will benefit from disaster preparedness management to help boost its productivity, according to Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Mario G. Montejo
Speaking at the 2014 International IT-BPM Summit last October 13 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, Sec. Montejo assured DOST’s full commitment to the industry and pointed out that the availability of up-to-date and real-time weather information and resources enable industry investors to map out better strategies and manage their operations more effectively.

More modern weather tracking and forecasting technology equals fewer casualties and less property damage. This, according to Department of Science and Technology Asst. Secretary Raymund Liboro, is one of the notable contributions of science and technology in the country for the past few years under the Aquino administration.

Secretary Mario G. Montejo assures the commitment of Department of Science and Technology in helping the local Information Technology- Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry to be an enabling factor in creating career opportunities for many Filipinos. He said that one of DOST’s initiative to support the industry is Next Wave Cities program which creates ways to build IT-BPM hubs in the provinces. He also explained how weather monitoring tools and hazard maps could help to the productivity of the operations of IT-BPM. ( S & T Media Service)
New PSHS system exec takes oath with new campus directors

Dr. Larry Cabatic, who served as director of Ilocos region campus for almost ten years, was appointed as the new executive director of Philippine Science High School System (PSHS), replacing Dr. Josette P. Biyo, current director of Science Education Institute (SEI). The PSHS system and SEI, both providing scholarships in the field of science and technology, are under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Dr. Cabatic, a civil engineer by profession, together with other new PSHS officials, took their oath of office during the 50th Anniversary celebration of the institution last September 5, 2014 at the Multi-Purpose Gymnasium of PSHS Main Campus in Quezon City. DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo administered said ceremony.
