Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, executive director of the Philippine Center for Health Research and Development (PCHRD-DOST), received the prestigious Career Executive Service award during the Annual CES Conference held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in November last year.
Dr. Montoya initiated the creation of the ASEAN-Network for Drugs, Diagnostics, and Vaccines Innovation (ASEAN-NDI) that enables R&D experts, government administrators and scientists in the region to work together to discover and develop health technologies that will address health problems and push forward the health industry among the ASEAN member states. Said health technologies include diagnostic tools, strategies, drugs, traditional medicine, vaccines and functional tools.

DOST’s venture financing pushes growth of start-up biz

With an upcoming assistance from the Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute via the Department’s Venture Financing Program, entrepreneur Pawel P. Rafael, owner and manager of Millennium Toolings and Fabrication Services (MTFS), hopes to make a crack in his field of business.
Rafael’s hope is hinged on his recent signing of a memorandum of agreement with DOST-TAPI and DOST-CALABARZON early this month for the implementation of the Venture Financing Program that will provide his firm a financial assistance worth PhP 1,850,000 for the acquisition of a laser marking equipment.

Yolanda may have ravaged Region 8 in 2013, and Ruby destroyed in 2014 what was rebuilt from the spoils, but the local’s thirst for knowledge can not be crushed.
The biggest proof of this is the additional five units of STARBOOKS or Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station turned over at Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) in Sogod, Southern Leyte to be deployed in Bontoc, San Juan, Hinunangan, and Tomas Oppus, all in Southern Leyte.

Searching for “Ruby”. Southern Leyte State University Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Lorelie P. Duarte searches for some information about Typhoon Ruby at the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS) during its formal turn over led by the Department of Science and Technology’s Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) at its Sogod, Southern Leyte campus. STARBOOKS is an S&T-based offline digital library that can be conveniently installed in barangays. A library-in-a-box, STARBOOKS contains about 11,000 full text literatures and livelihood videos to help not only students but also people who are searching for livelihood opportunities.
