New PSHS system exec takes oath with new campus directors

Dr. Larry Cabatic, who served as director of Ilocos region campus for almost ten years, was appointed as the new executive director of Philippine Science High School System (PSHS), replacing Dr. Josette P. Biyo, current director of Science Education Institute (SEI). The PSHS system and SEI, both providing scholarships in the field of science and technology, are under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Dr. Cabatic, a civil engineer by profession, together with other new PSHS officials, took their oath of office during the 50th Anniversary celebration of the institution last September 5, 2014 at the Multi-Purpose Gymnasium of PSHS Main Campus in Quezon City. DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo administered said ceremony.

DOST-TAPI inks partnership with patent professionals

DOST, Taguig City – In order to boost the country’s position in the Global Competitiveness Index through increased local patent filings, the Department of Science and Technology’s Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) formally partnered with the Association of PAQE Professionals, Inc. (APP) through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed September 16.
The partnership will also pave way for better assistance to local inventors.
Engr. Edgar I. Garcia, director of TAPI, is optimistic that TAPI, through the collaboration, will be able to meet its patenting targets and to assist local inventors obtain patent grants. These areas need special attention as the country’s patenting statistics show very few local filings by Filipino residents compared with foreign-based patent applications.

Cebu board member lauds DOST support to local inventors

Mandaue City- Cebu Provincial Board Member Griselda Sanchez lauds the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for its efforts in supporting the growth of local inventors.
“You know DOST Region 7 has greatly contributed to what I am today, I’m a living proof of DOST’s support to local scientists and innovators…” the lady board member revealed during her message at the start of the 2014 Visayas Cluster Regional Cluster Fair in J Center Square, Mandaue City, Cebu on 2 October.
