Lives lost or lives put on hold – these were the remnants of Yolanda, the super typhoon that devastated the Visayas islands, particularly Region 8, with Jaro, Leyte and Basey, Samar as two of the most shattered towns.

DOST’s info campaign brings together gov’t offices for safer communities

Worsening weather disturbances and the wrath of Typhoon Yolanda prompted the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to lay down the blueprint for a responsive disaster management initiative. Said blueprint is now freely shared through the conduct of an campaign dubbed “Iba na ang Panahon: Science for Safer Communities.”

DOST-UP’s plane to fly in ARMM to chart hazard map

The Department of Science and Technology will fly a plane over the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao in August to survey the region for hazard preparedness. The activity is part of DOST’s project with the University of the Philippines called DREAM or Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation, a component of the Project NOAH or Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards.

Bohol, Cebu, rest of Central Visayas brace for future disasters in DOST info campaign

Officials and disaster risk reduction managers (DRRM) from earthquake and typhoon-ravaged Bohol and Cebu joined their counterparts from Negros Oriental and Siquijor for the Central Visayas leg of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) ongoing national disaster information campaign and gave the roadshow its biggest participant turnout to date.
