Happening this 06 to 08 July 2018 at the SMX Davao Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier, Davao City, the event aims to show to the public the capability of science experts and hopes to inspire the youth and other sectors in patronizing local technology.
The event also aims to highlight the contribution of science and technology (S&T) to national development and to the lives of the Filipino people.
Aside from President Duterte, Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio and Davao City Congressman Karlo Alexei B. Nograles, alongside DOST officials led by Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, are expected to attend.
Exhibits, other activities
About 80 to 100 technologies will be featured in the exhibits, almost double from the previous conduct of NSTW in the region.
Among these is the space technology playing a big role in the country’s advancement in space science.
“We will be presenting space technology including the satellite technology, with the largest receiving station here in Davao, which will start construction before the year ends,” said Department of Science and Technology-XI Regional Director Anthony C. Sales.
Other technologies at the NSTW include the solar-powered Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) which are used in remote schools, and vertical helophyte filters which is a biological treatment for wastewater.
Aside from the exhibits, there will also be scientific forums open for the public with various topics such as ‘Creating an Innovation Ecosystem’, ‘Building a Science Culture’, and ‘Disaster Resilient Communities’.
The NSTW is celebrated every third week of July through Proclamation No. 169 of 1993. It aims to recognize the contribution of science and technology in the development of the country and garner support from the public and private institutions for its sustainable development.
