news-dost starbooks in yolanda affected cebu areas-06092015

Carmen Nacario, school librarian from Sta. Fe Central School in Cebu, is all smiles while exploring  STARBOOKS  (Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station) – the country’s’ first digital science library. A project of the Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute, STARBOOKS contains science and technology resources in text, audio, and video formats and does not require Internet connectivity.  Thirty-three STARBOOKS units were installed in different public schools in Camotes Islands and Bantayan Island in Cebu – areas severely affected by typhoon Yolanda in 2013, damaging libraries, books, and computers. STARBOOKS will be featured in DOST’s upcoming National Science and Technology Week from July 24-28, 2015 at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City. (Text and Photo by Allan Mauro V.
