COTABATO CITY, MAGUINDANAO- Academicians, politicians and youth achievers were recently named as Science and Technology (S&T) Ambassadors by the Department of Science and Technology- Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Named S&T Ambassadors were Hon. Sulog G. Bra, PhD, Jumelita B. Romero, PhD, Filemon G. Romero, Ph. D., Hon. Cahar P. Ibay, Yusop T. Alano, Hon. Abdelrazi A. Amin, Hon. Janimah D. Randi, Atty. Lorenzo R. Reyes, Ahmed Ibn “Amin” Turabin Hataman, and Hon. Mujiv S. Hataman.

Appointed envoys will be the department’s partners in championing S&T programs in ARMM.

ARMM Regional Governor Hon. Mujiv S. Hataman was named S&T Ambassador for Governance for his strong and unending support to the programs, projects and activities of DOST.

His son and the youngest among the S&T Ambassadors Ahmed Ibn “Amin” Turabin Hataman was recognized for his contribution to S&T as the brain of the investigatory project Testing the Feasibility of Using Nata de Coco as a Material for Biodegradable Plastic which won the gold medal in the 11th International Young Inventors Project Olympiad held May 2014 at Tblisi, Georgia, Europe.

Meanwhile, Lanao del Sur 1st District Assemblywoman Hon. Janimah D. Randi was conferred with the S&T Ambassador for Education title for her contribution to S&T education by giving opportunity to poor but deserving “science- gifted” students to continue higher scientific and technological education through the Resolution No. 64, Series of 2013 which seeks establishment of a Philippine Science High School campus in ARMM.

Mindanao State University- Tawi- Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography Chancellor Atty. Lorenzo R. Reyes, on the other hand, was given recognition as the S&T Ambassador for Infrastructure for his efforts in establishing marine and fisheries laboratory and training complex, an e-library building with facilities and scholarship grants for marine and fisheries students.

The S&T Ambassadors were announced during the opening ceremony of the first DOST- ARMM Science and Technology Week celebration at AL-NOR Convention Center, Cotabato City, Maguindanao.

DOST- ARMM also launched the Teknolohiyang Pangkabuhayan to help various business in the region, and the Light Detection and Ranging or LiDAR Projects on Flood Hazard Mapping.

“We are glad that the celebration of Science and Technology Week was made a reality. Through this event, the S&T community will be kept abreast with the global economic integration through innovation. Many firsts for the region as we hold these events and we will continue to deliver S&T services to our community,” said DOST- ARMM Sec. Myra B. Mangkabung.
