With more than a thousand expected attendees and participants, the Science Nation Tour: AghamnaRamdam will run in South Central Mindanao, more popularly known as SOCCSKSARGEN, on 16-18 February this year.

“The Science Nation Tour is a national roadshow aimed at making science felt by the average Filipino people down to the grassroots- to the last mile primarily thru massive promotion and expansion of programs, projects and services of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) throughout the country,” explained the DOST XII Regional Director, Dr. Zenaida P. HR Laidan. “DOST Secretary Mario Montejo will lead the cause to showcase DOST developed scientific and technological advancements in the country.”

Dr. Laidan also informed that confirmed attendees and participants include heads and personnel from the industry and private sectors, local government units, national government agencies, as well as officials, faculty and students from the academe. Also participating are civil society organizations of various social and economic brackets.

The three-day event will feature activities reflecting DOST’s bid to integrate science in efforts toward progress and inclusive growth. Opening Ceremonies will be held on the first day of the event, to start at 9:00AM at KCC Convention Center, General Santos City.

According to Dr. Laidan, DOST XII will supplement the event of not just informative and enlightening S&T undertakings but also amusing and entertaining activities for the people to enjoy whilst learning and being kept abreast of S&T developments.

Highlights of activities include Symposium on Strengthening Region’s Resilience to the Impacts of Climate Change; the Regional Invention Contest; Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program Stakeholders’ Economic Cooperation; Youth S&T Assembly, Reaching out to Community: Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology; and the Halal Certification Conference.

“The S&T Caravan is seen to add color to our public campaign of giving value to S&T as a potent tool to spur productivity and development in every socio-economic aspect,” Dr. Laidan said.

Moreover, the event will feature DOST’s High Impact Programs, new projects, and roll-out of technologies developed by DOST’s research and development institutes. The event will also highlight current major accomplishments and success stories in DOST’s banner programs implemented in the region.

“Also to be staged is the launching of the operationalization of OneStore, an online marketing strategy for SMEs. Interestingly, we are taking our S&T exhibits to a whole new level of interactive and digital display,” stated Dr. Laidan.
