Capiz, a well-known product of Western Visayasis now showing potential as new business opportunity in Cavite. Known as the mother-of- pearl shells, it is one of the most elegant materials for decorations such as vases, windows, lanterns and others.

Now capiz-made handicrafts are expected to even get better in quality through improved facilities made possible by the Department of Science and Technology Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP).

Recently, the DOST IV-A, through its Cavite Provincial S&T Center, granted RL Handicrafta new set of plating facility with complete accessories and low cost furnace dryer to improve the firm’s production capacity. This is expected to also shore up sales and income of the company, aside from helping it to become more competitive in the market.

RL Handicraftwas started in 2006 by Mr.& Mrs. Charito and Gloria Peniones who saw the big potentials of handicraft products both in the local and export market. This led the couple to start this kind of business. Soon, their business thrived and the market broadened, with local clients placing the bulk of orders. The demand for the crafts peaks during Christmas season in which additional employees are usually hired to cope with the demand.

Photos below show sample products of RL Handicrafts.
