The Department of Science and Technology’s Science Nation Tour, called“AghamnaRamdam”, is set to shake Bicolandiathis March 2-4 with activities that weave science and technology into the people’s daily lives.
“AghamnaRamdam” is DOST’s nationwide campaign that aims to make science “felt” by the average Filipino through various region-based activities designed for participants to see and experience how science affects their daily lives.
“The challenge is to make science and technology work for every Juan and Juana,” Sec. Mario G. Montejo said. “For science to be relevant, it should be able to help the poorest of the poor communities.”
The three-daymulti-location event features various activities that integrate science in efforts toward progress and inclusive growth in Albay and Camarines Sur provinces. Featured are the following activities:
Day 1 (2 March 2016) - Launch of the Complementary Food Processing Facility (Central Bicol State University ofAgriculture, Pili, Camarines Sur); visit to the Complementary Food Production Area and luncheon meeting with LGU-lriga (San Agustin, Iriga City); project visits (Prima General Merchandise in La Trinidad, Iriga City) and CO.P. Pili Sweets and Pastries in Banag, Daraga, Albay); and meeting with DOST V personnel.
Day 2 (3 March 2016) - Site visit and STARBOOKS launchat Taysan Elementary School; site visit to Taysan Training Production and Livelihood Center; radio guesting at DZGB; orientation-training on Project NOAH and a forum on early warning system with local government beneficiaries and RDRRMC-Bicol member agencies at Hotel St. Ellis, Legazpi City; launch of the Bicol Integrated Dengue Vector Management Program at Ninong's Hotel, Legazpi City; Scholars' Summit (poster and essay writing contests and achievers day/career talk/testimonial) at Ayala Malls, Legazpi City; and dinner meeting to be hosted by LGU Legazpi thru Mayor Noel E. Rosal.
Day 3(4 March 2016) -1st Regional Full Council Meeting to be hosted by Regional Development Council V at NEDA, Arimaby, Legazpi City.
Said activities raise DOST’s efforts in heightening the Filipinos’ consciousness on the indispensable role of science and technology in our society.
