The Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) will celebrate its 34th anniversary celebration on March 17, 2016 at New World Makati Hotel.
With the theme “Going Global: Increasing International Partnerships in Research and Innovation for Health,” the event will highlight globalization of research and innovation for health and the growing interest for international research collaborations.
“The 34th anniversary celebration will also serve as a platform for stakeholders to discuss ways to make international research collaborations more effective and efficient through greater cooperation,” Dr. Jaime Montoya, PCHRD executive director, stated.
Highlight of the program is a panel discussion with speaker Prof. Carel IJsselmuiden, Council on Health Research for Development executive director who will discuss “International Partnerships and Fairness in Research Collaboration: Learnings, Best Practices and the Way Forward.”
Forming the panel of reactors are Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Dr. Lilibeth David, UK-Newton Fund Research and Innovation Programme Manager Karen Ann Hipol, University of the Philippines Manila Chancellor Dr. Carmencita Padilla, De La Salle University Vice Chancellor for Mission and Linkages Dr. Charles Yu, and Institut Pasteur Paris Functional Genetics Laboratory Head Dr. Anavaj Sakuntabhai.
Parallel sessions will also be conducted on topics such as Overcoming Challenges instigated by Typhoon Yolanda, School-Based Mosquito Abundance Prediction Model, Biomedical Devices, and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Intellectual Property Policies. General assembly of Philippine Association of Medical Journals Editors (PAMJE) and election of PCHRD Scholars’ Society officers will also be held.
Gracing the event with his experiences as a professor and fellow is Royal Society of Canada Academy of Science President Dr. Mohamed Jamal Deen. Dr. Deen is a world-leading expert in modelling, design, and applications of modern advanced semiconductor devices and circuits.
DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo and DOH Secretary Janette Loreto-Garin will open the event.
PCHRD is one of three sectoral councils of the Department of Science and Technology. Founded on March 17, 1982, PCHRD is a forward-looking, partnership-based national body responsible for coordinating and monitoring research activities in the country.
