DAVAO DE ORO – The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) granted a total of ₱1,505,650.00 to the Compostela Valley State College (CVSC) for the implementation of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Project in the province.

DOST XI, through its Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) - Davao de Oro will be releasing the said amount for the procurement of supplies and equipment such as Cacao Processing machines, Decorticating Machine for Abaca Fiber Extraction for Weaving Activities, Wooden Loom Machines, and Packaging Materials. These will be used for the roll out of the CEST Project aimed to benefit the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas, Indigenous People groups, and others in Andap and Manurigao, New Bataan.

CEST is one of the banner programs of the DOST that aims to deliver sustainable development to chosen communities through the provision of Science and Technology (S&T) interventions in five entry points namely, economic development / livelihood opportunities, human resource development, health and nutrition, environmental protection and conservation, and disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

Based on the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by PSTC Davao de Oro OIC, Engr. Laarnie D. Albacite, CVSC President, Dr. Christie Jean V. Ganiera, and CVSC Extension Services Division Director, Ms. Glory Jean Altamera, DOST XI will also provide technical assistance including consultancy and technology trainings, and other types of assistance needed for the project.

Meanwhile, CVSC will co-implement the project according to the identified and approved technological interventions with the Barangay Local Government Unit of Manurigao and Camarin Manlobong Taytayan Onion Farmers Association (CAMATOFA) and other beneficiaries.
