The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office I (DOST-I) in partnership with SM Prime Holdings, launched an exhibit titled, 'Connecting Today to Tomorrow' last 28 March 2022, at SM City Rosales, Pangasinan. The event featured sustainability and disaster resilience initiatives of the DOST as well as the efforts being done by the private sector like SM Prime Holdings.
Herald D. Eleria, SM City Rosales Mall Manager, stated that the activity is an initiative of SM Prime Holdings towards reinforcing its commitment to protecting the environment and the community and fostering sustainability and disaster resiliency, not only for the private sector but also for the public sectors and the individuals.
DOST-I Regional Director Armando Q. Ganal remarked, "The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) continues to take initiatives to equip the people and the community towards resiliency and to create a culture of preparedness. DOST takes a big part in a comprehensive and advanced disaster science research, systematic assessment of hazards, development of accessible tools for prevention and mitigation of disasters to the different Local Government Units (LGUs), policymakers, communities including MSMEs or the Micro Small Medium Enterprises, individuals and of course families."
Director Ganal further cited the numerous DOST technologies that address disaster resiliency and preparedness. "Let us work hand in hand to strengthen disaster management systems (such as the DATOS Project, GeoRiskPH, Emergency Disinfection System, Emergency Food Reserve, and Ready-to-Eat Food) by applying practices, experiences, and appropriate technologies and innovations. Let us invest in the continuity of operation plans for organizations and in the promotion of strong community systems that address the many factors in disaster resiliency. There is a lot more that we can do as we achieve our main goal, and that is to become a resilient Filipino nation," Dr. Ganal encouraged.
The various measures executed by SM Prime Holdings towards maintaining a 'Green Community' were presented through an audio-visual presentation that was followed by the Ceremonial Ribbon Cutting of the exhibit.
The head units, school administrators and representatives from the LGU of Rosales, Pangasinan were also in attendance during the activity.
The exhibit that showcases the innovations, programs and projects of SM Prime Holdings and DOST is located at the Ground floor of SM City Rosales and will run until 24 April 2022. (By: Carla Joyce B. Cajala, DOST-I)
