The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) goes all out as it opens its doors to partners and guests for the celebration of the Atomic Energy Week (AEW) 2023 on December 4-7 at the PNRI grounds in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
With the theme “Gearing up the next generation towards a Nuclear Philippines”, the 51st AEW celebration is made more exciting by the holding of the first ever Philippine Nuclear Science Olympiad. The tilt, open to junior and senior high school students across the country, offers cash prizes, meals, and certificates to the top five awardees. Moreover, the top placer will represent the country in the first ever International Nuclear Olympiad to be held in August next year.
The AEW 2023 is PNRI’s first face-to-face celebration of the event after the pandemic. As of this writing, several schools and other interested guests have already enlisted for participation in the various activities such as technical session, guided tours, exhibits, and a gender and development forum. The Olympiad too has already listed about 200 participants from all over the Philippines.
The annual AEW celebration is one of PNRI’s platforms in communicating to the public on the latest nuclear and radiation-related innovations. It is also a venue for scientists, industry professionals, educators, students, and the general public to get together to understand and appreciate the contribution of nuclear science in various fields and nuclear S&T’s growing role in the country’s larger development policy.
Updates on the AEW 2023 can be accessed at http://aew.pnri.dost.gov.ph. Further, the opening program and some of its activities will be simulcast across various PNRI’s social media platforms to reach audiences that are not able to participate in person.
The annual AEW celebration, as mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 1211 in 1973, aims to generate awareness of the Filipino people on the beneficial uses of nuclear science and technology.
