Ms. Ma. Lotuslei Dimagiba of DOST-STII introduced DOSTv (Science for the People) programs in the content viewing on the 1st day of NYSTIF on the 18th of September 2024.
New season teasers of DOSTv programs’ Expertalk and Siyensikat were presented among youth participants of the National Science, Technology, and Innovations Festival (NYSTIF) on 18 September 2024 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.
These educational-oriented programs produced by DOSTv aim to showcase the practical applications of Science, Technology, and Innovations in daily life, while also sharing inspiring stories of NextGen Filipino Scientists who are pushing boundaries to promote Science-based solutions and opportunities.
“Through these programs, we also emphasize how visual communication helps translating complex ideas into content that can be easily understood and more engaging for everyone,” added Asec. Juanillo Jr.
“I congratulate the DOSTv team, creative partners, and DOST-STII for producing SiyenSikat and ExperTalk stories and for your collective commitment to making S&T accessible to the people.” said DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr.
The participants witnessed teasers for the SiyenSikat season five episode on Climate Science Youth Camp in Camiguin Island and an outdoor interview filled with actions with Lepidopterist Ms. Liezel Mae R. Abijay, featured in ExperTalk.

“We often travel around the Philippines to meet and discuss the innovations and discoveries of young Scientists. What I really appreciate about doing ExperTalks is introducing career paths that are rarely sought after but vital for enriching resources and in nation building,” shared program host AJ Castro.
On the other hand, SiyenSikat host Jiego Reyes noted that the new season entails stories of how the lives of people have been transformed through Science and Technology.
“Our Goal is to give life on what you [students] are learning in schools,” he added.
“We are very ambitious with DOSTv because video is a very powerful tool to communicate Science,” stated Mr. Rodolfo P. De Guzman of the Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII).
Moreover, Mr. De Guzman and DOSTv head Ms. Ma. Lotuslei Dimagiba laid out the future plans for DOSTv: establish regional presence through expansion; Increase partnerships with stakeholders to co-create S&T programs and contents across different platforms; continuously improve programs and content offered based on viewer feedback; produce a program about science for the kids; and produce S&T contents that will achieve international recognitions.
National Youth Commission (NYC) representative Mr. Mark Unlu-cay enjoined DOSTv for collaboration in developing Science-oriented programs for the Sanguniang Kabataan.
Among the audience members was Mr. Mark Unlu-cay of National Youth Commission (NYC), who lauded the efforts of DOSTv in bridging Science-related activities and information to young people.
He expressed NYC’s interest to establish a partnership with DOSTv, especially in creating policies that will incorporate Science Communication into Sanguniang Kabataan at both the national and barangay levels.
“Bukod sa mga paliga at e-sports tournaments nais ng NYC na maglatag ng mga programa para sa SK na may kinalaman sa pagpapaunlad ng kaalaman at kahusayan sa iba’t-ibang larangan (gaya ng Siyensiya),” uttered Mr. Unlu-cay.
[Aside from basketball and e-sports tournament, the NYC would like to lay out programs for SK that has relevance to enhancing critical thinking and added skills in different fields]
