This is what the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) did as it wrapped up its two-year project documenting eyewitness accounts of significant earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions using local languages in the Philippines.

“I believe that fragrance, as an art form, is a work of the heart, more than the work of the brain.” This is what a renowned perfumer in the country, Oscar Mejia III said in a talk titled, “Bottled Masterpieces: Exploring the Art of Fragrances” on 26 February 2024.
The talk is part of a special event called Scents of Innovation: Local Art and Science of Green Fragrances, conducted by the Department of Science and Technology-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI), in celebration of National Arts Month.

The National Astronomy Week (NAW) kicked off last February 16, 2025 highlighting how astronomy connects to music, art, film, climate change, and even mental health.
The celebration ran until February 22 with 73,000 participants tuned in to watch the opening ceremony streamed live on DOST-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration official Facebook page. This year, DOST-PAGASA along with the Philippine Astronomical Society Inc (PAS), and the Astronomical League of the Philippines Inc (ALP).

It’s 2025 and even with numerous attempts to clear up our plastic waste, it just keeps piling up.
The Philippines remains as top waste generators in Southeast Asia with total solid waste generation of the country expected to reach 23.61M tons this year with most of these being plastic waste, according to the Climate Transparency Platform.

In the 10th anniversary celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through its Gender and Development Unit (GADU), hosted a hybrid career planning forum titled “Unboxing STEM Professions: A Day in the Life of Women in Science” on February 11, 2025, at the PHIVOLCS Auditorium, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Diliman, Quezon City. The event aimed to emphasize the vital role of women in scientific innovation and to highlight the numerous opportunities available for their advancement in STEM fields.
