DOST-I conducts calibration caravan in Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur

To ensure accurate data on the weight of the residents, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office I (DOST-I) conducted free calibration services in the provinces of Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur this January 2024.
This is in response to the request of the Provincial Health Offices in mentioned provinces to ensure accurate data collection from the weighing scales utilized in the BHC by the the Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Service Population Officers.
From 16-19 January 2024, DOST-I, through its Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) – Pangasinan, calibrated a total of 366 weighing scales in four (4) local government units (LGUs) in the province namely Alaminos City, Burgos, Urdaneta City, and Sison.

DOST, PLGU MisOr sign MOA for Mindanao’s first FoodtrIP

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Provincial Local Government Unit of Misamis Oriental (PLGU-MisOr) sign a Memorandum of Agreement on 5 February 2024 at the Provincial Capitol Compound, Cagayan de Oro City on the implementation and use of the Food-on-the-Road Innovation and Processing Facility (FoodtrIP) or the Mobile Modular Food Processing Facility (Drying Module), which is the first in Mindanao.
With the signed agreement, the drying module developed and designed by the DOST Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) and housed inside a 32-foot van will be deployed in the province for agri-fisheries value-adding. The FoodtrIP is a GMP-compliant food processing facility on wheels, allowing flexibility and accessibility to develop viable commercial products from local vegetables, fruits, and crops, especially when there is a surplus.

DOST expert, first Filipino to receive ISO Excellence award

A Department of Science and Technology (DOST) official is the first Filipino expert to receive the coveted International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Award.
The recognition is bestowed to Dr. Rico J. Cabangon–the DOST Forest Products Research and Development Institute Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Director, for his work in Bamboo and Rattan (ISO/TC 296), and for his leadership in the working group on Bamboo for Furniture (WG 5). He is also cited for his contributions to the development of ISO 6128:2023, which outlines the requirements and test methods on laminated products made of bamboo strips for indoor furniture purposes.
The formulation of ISO 6128:2023 aims to boost the global trade of laminated bamboo and strengthen its value, effectiveness, and competitiveness in the market.
The ISO Excellence Award recognizes the endeavors of ISO's technical professionals, experts, project leaders, or convenors in committee working groups that have significantly helped in “furthering the interests of standardization and related activities.”

DOST launches program to kick-start regional development on PH tropical fabrics

With immense potential to generate livelihood and job opportunities for many Filipinos, especially in rural areas in the country, the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) launched a program to revitalize the local textile industry. This initiative aims to leverage their existing technologies and products for regional inclusive development.
As part of the 2024 Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) Month celebration with the theme 'Spinning Innovations,' the DOST-PTRI held the National Textile Convention, also known as 'TELACon,' from 30-31 January at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
