Representing the Philippine President, DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., participated in the G77 and China Summit of Heads of State and Government on current development challenges focusing on the vital role of science, technology, and innovation.
The two-day Summit was held in Havana, Cuba and was attended by more than 100 G77 member countries including various international organization partners.
The G77 is the largest intergovernmental organization of developing countries in the United Nations, which provides the means for the countries of the South to articulate and promote their collective economic interests; enhance joint negotiating capacity on major international issues; and continue pursuing South-South cooperation for development. In this connection, thirty (30) Heads of States and Government from Africa, Asia, and Latin America also joined the in-person general debate.

DOST-MIRDC helps strengthen local die and mold industry with the MTSC facility in Cavite

DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development (DOST-MIRDC) conducted a Mold Technology Demonstration, Appreciation, and Promotion activity recently in General Trias, Cavite to promote the Mold Technology Support Center (MTSC) and hear testimonials from their clients in the manufacturing sector.
The MTSC aims to develop die and mold-related skills to ensure that there will be a ready pool of people to hire in the industry, as well as help make the manufacturing industry more competitive. According to Atty. Norma Tañag, Zone Administrator of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), there are more than 200 companies that are expected to benefit from MTSC's training program and webinars.
Success stories that stemmed from these training sessions and webinars were shared during the event, thus validating the importance of the center to boosting capacity building initiatives in the die and mold industry.

DOST and PEZA sign KIST Joint Memorandum Circular

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) recently signed a joint memorandum circular on the establishment of Knowledge, Innovation, and Science Technology or KIST parks at the DOST Main Building in Taguig.
DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. and PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga signed the joint memorandum circular before a group of witnesses composed of members of both agencies.
According to the science department, KIST will pave the way for start-ups or newly formed companies that use science, technology, and innovation to access various enabling services from the DOST to spur economic development in growth areas in different regions in the country.

DOST SciNet-Phil members gather to plan ways forward

Member-representatives of the Department of Science and Technology’s ScINET-PHIL gather last month at City Garden Suites Manila for the two-day DOST ScINET-PHIL General Assembly and Strategic Planning Workshop.
The DOST Science and Technology Information Network of the Philippines (ScINET-PHIL) is a network of all the libraries and information centers under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), including the regional offices and the Provincial S & T Centers (PSTCs).
Created through the DOST Administrative Order No. 29, Series of 1995, it aims to organize and coordinate the information sourcing and sharing in the DOST system. Its general objective is to promote and improve the flow and use of science and technology (S&T) information through resource sharing and networking.
