Mindanaoans expected to join 2022 Regional Scientific Meeting - DOST

The National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST-PHL), in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology Region IX (DOST-IX), will host the Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (MRSM) on 5-6 April 2022, in conjunction with the 44th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM).
With the theme “PAGTANAW 2050: Agham Tungo sa Mabuting Kinabukasan/ FORESIGHT 2050: Science for a Sustainable Future,” this year’s Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting is set as an online event to reach wider geography and demographics of Mindanao. It will be held primarily via Zoom Conferencing, at the same time streamed through DOST-IX Facebook and Youtube accounts.

A scientist’s take on environmental issues and what women can do

“To be a woman is already hard enough, and to be working in the field of environment presents a number of challenges.”
This was according to Dr. Emilyn Q. Espiritu, Executive Director of Ateneo Research Institute of Science and Engineering, during a presentation on” Women at the Frontline of Climate Change,” in the recent Women’s Month celebration by the Department of Science and Technology – Gender and Development (DOST-GAD), where Espiritu initially gave a rundown of the six challenges confronting the environment: over population, depleting water resources, soil erosion, solid waste management, loss of biodiversity, and the atmosphere.

Woman entrepreneur pivots to adopt technologies now helping housewives earn extra income

A woman-led enterprise assisted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through its Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC)-Misamis Oriental now employs more than 60 local workers, mostly housewives. During peak production, the firm employs more than 70 persons including on-calls.
The enterprise is a second time beneficiary of the assistance under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), one of the flagship programs of the DOST being implemented by the DIOST regional offices.
