It’s a dream come true for members of the Aeta community in Barangay Banoyo, San Luis, Batangas!
After the dialogue they had with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Batangas, the solar-powered sewing services enterprise they dreamt of establishing as a source of income is now a reality.

DOST-VII and DOST-IV-A join hands in distributing Nutribun for ODETTE victims

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through Siquijor Provincial S&T Center’s Engr. Mario E. de la Peña distributed Enhanced Nutribun (from DOST-IV-A) to the officers and staff of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and to the community of Persons Deprived of Liberty of the province of Siquijor.
As part of the government’s relief effort to those affected by Typhoon Odette, DOST CALABARZON donated 1,000 pieces of Enhanced Nutribun to DOST SIQUIJOR PSTC. The latter’s beneficiaries are preferentially those projects that have availed of DOST’s intervention under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), Grants-in-Aid (GIA), and the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program. Its Samaritan spirit, however, extended to small communities other than those aforementioned.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Region I, in collaboration with DZAG Radyo Pilipinas Agoo, started up the first episode of Tekno PreSyensya 2022: Syensya ken Teknolohiya para kadagiti Umili featuring the accomplishments DOST-I for the Calendar Year 2021 and talking about the Innovation, Science and Technology for Accelerating Regional Technology-based Development (iSTART) program on 13 January 2022, via Zoom and DOST-I Facebook page.
The episode was attended by DOST-I Regional Director Armando Q. Ganal, DOST- Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Pangasinan Provincial Director Arnold C. Santos, and representatives from the two (2) beneficiary Local Government Units (LGUs) of Pangasinan namely, LGU Balungao Municipal Agriculturist Officer Marilyn Lilagan, and LGU Alcala Municipal Planning Officer II Michelle Retoria.

DOST-FPRDI finds a new use for invasive ‘lapnis’

The Department of Science and Technology-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) is now exploring the possibility of using lapnis bast fibers for paper conservation.
Lapnis or paper mulberry [Broussonetia papyrifera (L.) L’Herit ex Vent] is a type of shrub introduced in the Philippines in 1935 as a reforestation species and a source of fiber. Over the years, however, it has come to be known as a pest – thriving uncontrollably and invading vast tracks of idle lands in the country.
