Great news for Luzon high schoolers! Do you want an exciting mind game with the chance to win big prizes? It’s time to sign up for the STARBOOKS Whiz Bee, which will take place during the National Youth Science, Technology, and Innovation Festival (NYSTIF) at The Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum Tent in Pasay City on 19 September 2024.
The STARBOOKS Whiz Bee is the largest Science and Mathematics competition designed to challenge Grade 10 students from STARBOOKS beneficiary schools. Participants will have the opportunity to show-off their quick thinking and analytical skills by answering tricky and critical questions in these prime subjects while fostering camaraderie.

Many, if not all of us, have used measuring tools like rulers and measuring cups at some point. But beyond everyday activities like cooking and controlling appliance temperatures, did you know that we rely on measurements more than we realize, such as ensuring food safety, providing accurate medicine doses, preventing economic losses, maintaining smooth vehicle operations, and reducing waste?
More importantly, did you know there is an entire branch of science, called metrology, dedicated to perfecting measurements?

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI, in partnership with University of Antique (UA), will give opportunities to 18 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) San Jose Antique District Jail, to earn a degree of Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship.
This was shared by the officials from the DOST and UA during the opening of the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) held at the UA in Sibalom, Antique.

Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. of the Department of Science and Technology said that the DOST is prioritizing the strengthening of its relationship with local stakeholders and academic institutions to increase the chances of various research and development (R&D) projects being commercialized and used by local communities.
“The job of DOST is to really sustain the scientific efforts, kung anuman research mo, kung anuman mga products na nadevelop mo, for us to sustain the knowledge gain and having it operated at the local level, we really need to work with the local players, local government, local academic institutions, and local industry,” said Sec. Solidum.
