Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña (left) urges the Filipino Inventors Society to strengthen their organization by inviting more young scientists and inventors to join them and promote Filipino innovation in various fields to create more new products that will make life more convenient. Sec. de la Peña formally opened the National Inventors Week 2016 last November 14 at the DOST Compound in Bicutan, Taguig City. But given the study on indigenous Actinomycetes by a team of researchers led by Irene Alcantara-Papa of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH), University of the Philippines Los Baños, the country may eventually reduceimporting antibiotics.
