The 2017 National Science and Technology Week featured the first digital library-in-a-box called Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks or popularly known as STARBOOKS at the World Trade Center in Pasay City last week. STARBOOKS is one of the knowledge products of the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) that provides access to hundreds of thousands of science and technology information. STARBOOKS is suitable to public schools nationwide, especially those without internet connection. Because of this novel product, DOST-STII was awarded in June 29, 2015 with the American Library Association (ALA) Presidential Citation for Innovative International Library Projects during the International Librarians Reception held at the San Francisco Public Library in San Francisco, California, USA. STARBOOKS is one of DOST’s projects that bringS&T to the grassroots, in fulfillment of DOST’s thrust embodied in the tagline  “Science for the People.” (Text and Photo by Rodolfo P. de Guzman/S&T Media Service)
