MUNOZ, Nueva Ecija – Following the successful celebration of the 2017 National Science and Technology Week of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at the World Trade Center in Pasay City last July 11-15, 2017, the DOST-Region III now celebrates the Regional S&T Week (RSTW) at the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Munoz, Nueva Ecija. This year’s activity is anchored on the theme “Science for the People”.
As a long time partner of the DOST, CLSU plays host to this year’s celebration of science week from July 25-27, 2017, highlighting the entries from different provinces in the region that are vying for the prestigious award of becoming a winner in the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits or RICE. This annual event is organized by the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) of the DOST in close cooperation with the regional offices.
Expected to attend this S&T event is DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña who will be giving his keynote address together with host DOST Region III Director Dr. Julius Caesar V. Sicat. Joining the science chief are officials of DOST Central Office, namely: Undersecretary for R&D Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara; Undersecretary for Regional Operations Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano; Assistant Secretary Emmanuel S. Galvez; DOST-TAPI Director Edgar I. Garcia; and DOST-STII Director Richard P. Burgos. The DOST Region III Assistant Directors and Provincial S&T Directors will also be in attendance.
Aside from the RICE event, there will be exhibits of different technologies in agriculture, industry, information and communication, enterprise development education, health and disaster mitigation. The exhibits cum technology fair will be open to the public on July 25 to be held at the CLSU Multipurpose Gymnasium.
Together with the exhibits, there will be film showing of technologies and seminars and forums on hydroponics, goat production and meat processing, prototyping of agricultural machineries, and implementation of the Deployment of Early Warning System for disaster preparedness.
Furthermore, there will be an activity for micro, small and medium enterprises or MSMEs called the “uSap SETUP Tayo” where cooperators of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) will have the opportunity to discuss business-related topics like enterprise development, marketing, financial assistance, technology adoption and many more.
To promote S&T education to the youth, the RSTW will conduct a scholarship orientation to provide information about scholarship grants for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses. This activity will further strengthen the country’s capacity building efforts in increasing the pool of S&T graduates and professionals in the country.
The culminating event on July 27 will be the awarding ceremonies for RSTW Exhibitors, RICE winnersand DOST Region III Service and Achievement Awards. (S&T Media Service)
