The Department of Science and Technology’s programs for a stronger Philippine metals industry and for safer transportation will be highlighted in the upcoming National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) slated on July 24-28, 2014 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City.
Surface engineering technologies to prevent metal corrosion recommended by DOST’s Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) will be tackled in a forum dubbed “Ang Kalawang Ayaw ni Juan… sa DOST May Paraan!” on July 28, 8:00 am at the Forum Hall 2 of SMX Convention Center.
This will be followed by a forum entitled “FEA nandito na! Ligtas na sasakyang pamasada, aarangkada na!” at 10:00 am. FEA refers to the modeling of products and systems in a virtual environment, for the purpose of finding and solving potential or existing structural or performance issues.
The forum will discuss MIRDC’s Finite Element Analysis Design Center that will serve as the government’s main laboratory for the upgrading of customized local road vehicles (CLRVs) such as tricycles, jeepneys, and mini buses, through testing, safety and structural design improvement. The center also aims to address the environmental safety aspect of CLRVs.
An annual event of the DOST, NSTW is a show window for Filipino ingenuity, innovation and science and technology (S&T) developments as well as a platform for promoting S&T as a key driver of economic development. Admission is free. (S&T Media Service)
