It is now the Department of Science and Technology- Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s (DOST- ARMM) turn to showcase the biggest and latest breakthroughs in S&T in the upcoming celebration of 2015 DOST- ARMM Science and Technology Week.
To run October 8- 10, 2015 at the Alnor Convention Center in Cotabato City, the event will feature DOST’s S&T programs and interventions and local inventions, bearing the theme Philippines: A Science Nation Innovating for Global Competitiveness.
Parallel to the S&T fair is the 2015 ARMM Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE), a nationwide activity conducted in different regions to recognize the creativity of Filipino inventors in the country.
First off is the launching of Teknolohiyang Pangkabuhayan and Light Detection and Ranging or LiDAR Projects, and the presentation of RICE entries.
DOST- ARMM will also introduce the region’s Science and Technology (S&T) during the opening ceremony. Said S&T Ambassadors include Yusop T. Alano, provincial board member of Basilan; Hon. Abdelrazi A. Amin, municipal councilor of Jolo, Sulu and chairperson of Philippine Councilors League- ARMM; Filemon G. Romero, Ph. D.; Hon. Cahar P. Ibay, assemblyman of 1st District Mindanao; Jumelita B. Romero, Ph. D.; Hon. Janimah D. Pandi, representative of the 1st District Lanao del Sur; Atty. Leonardo R. Reyes, chancellor of Mindanao State University- Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU- TCTO); Hon. Mujiv S. Hataman, regional governor of ARMM; and Ahmed Ibn “Amin” Turabin Hataman.
On exhibit will be DOST’s Eight Outcomes or its interventions in the fields of agriculture, enterprise, industry, information and communication technology and eGovernment, healthcare, education, and disaster. Other activities of the event include project visits, scientific parade or Lakad Agham and NUTRICOMMNET forum.
Meanwhile, awarding of the RICE qualifiers will conclude the ARMM cluster fair. The qualifiers will compete with other regional winners at the prestigious National Invention Contest and Exhibits in July 2016.
