This article that has been published in the Businessworld: Climate Change Resilience in Asia’s Cities (Posted on May 14, 2015) says that more than half of the world’s megacities, cities with 10 million or more people are now in Asia. By 2015, Asia will likely have 21 out of a global total of 37 megacities. Manila is 15th from the top. The task at hand is creating cities that can cope with the following:
- Climate change mitigation: Asia’s cities must boost energy efficiency, construct green buildings, and expand public transport.
- Climate change adaptation: This means climate proofing infrastructure and early warning systems for disasters.
- Asia must build homes, transport networks, water, and energy systems that can withstand the impacts of climate change.
