For those without the so-called “green thumb” may find urban agriculture technology to be the answer to their woes and perhaps help in addressing concerns on food security in the country.

Some Filipinos also hesitate to try gardening due to the limited space. However, a project by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) will make urban agriculture easier and less challenging.

In a broadcast statement, Adoracion Armada, the officer-in-charge of the DOST-PCAARRD's Agricultural Resources Management Division, said that there are indeed many technologies available for urban agriculture or urban farming.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Murdoch University, Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 30 June 2023 to foster scientific, technological, and educational cooperation.     

The MOU was signed by DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr. and Murdoch University, Australia Deputy Vice Chancellor for Global Engagement Professor Simon McKirdy. The MOU is an off-shoot of the successful visit of Secretary Solidum to Murdoch University in Perth, Australia on 28 March 2023 which was reciprocated by Professor McKirdy during his visit to DOST last 03 May 2023.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. leads the Philippines at the 12th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (IAMMSTI-12), held on 22 June 2023.

The Philippines expressed support for the development of an ASEAN strategy for carbon neutrality, shared best practices to drive sustainable growth, and expressed commitment to foster closer collaboration amongst the ASEAN Member States. Secretary Solidum encouraged both nature-based and market-based solutions to reduce carbon emissions through carbon pricing instruments.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) recently conducted a Scientific Mission to Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 27-30 June 2023, with the aim of fostering and strengthening international partnerships in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). This significant milestone marked the first scientific mission conducted by the Department in Latin America, highlighting the commitment to South-South collaboration between the Philippines and Argentina.

Led by Secretary Renato U.Solidum, Jr., the DOST delegation included Executive Director Engr. Robert O. Dizon and Deputy Executive Director Dr. Agustin M. Fudolig of the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC), and Director Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla of the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI).

Philippine Science and Technology Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr. and Universities Canada CEO and President Paul Davidson sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance cooperation in science, technology and innovation.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Universities Canada signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance cooperation in science, technology and innovation (STI) during a virtual ceremony held on Friday, 16 June 2023.

The MOU was signed by DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr., and Universities Canada President Paul Davidson and was witnessed by DOST and Universities Canada officials, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Philippine Embassy in Canada, and the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines.
