HAWKS AI technology live demonstration of plant detection

Due to the tedious, time-consuming, and hazardous nature of traditional crop disease detection methods, the Autonomous Societally Inspired Mission Oriented Vehicles - Harmonized Aerial Watch and Knowledge-Based Survey (ASIMOV-HAWKS) has developed an automated solution to optimize agricultural practices.

At a research, development, and innovation symposium held on the second day of the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) in SOCCSKSARGEN, Dr. Jose Ildefonso U. Rubrico and his team from ASIMOV-HAWKS presented their Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology—HAWKS AI.

Dr. Sylvester A. Badua discussing the automated fertigation system

It is expected that by the year 2050, water shortages will be experienced all over the world due to the increasing population. This poses a specific problem in the agricultural sector, which uses 82% of freshwater for crops.

Dr. Sylvester A. Badua, an associate professor at Central Luzon State University (CLSU), raised this concern while sharing his lecture on automated fertigation systems during the green economy forum, part of the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW), held on September 25, 2024 at SM City Tuguegarao.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. encourages micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to collaborate with DOST, particularly in utilizing science, technology, and innovation to boost entrepreneurship.

“Science and business are being merged. Sa ating mga MSMEs, magpa-SETUP na kayo kasi tiyak kikita kayo, hindi kayo “upset,” magiging masaya kayo,” shared Sec. Solidum during the opening of 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) celebration held at Veranza Mall Atrium in General Santos City.
