The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is looking to give Internet access to 99 % of the Philippine archipelago by 2016.
The Department believes that maximizing the tons of opportunities on the web could play a vital role in speeding up economic progress, specifically in the underserved and unserved areas.
This was shared by DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo during the official launch of the Free Wi-Fi Internet Access in Public Places project of the Department on the opening day of the 2015 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) last July 24, 2015 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Teddy’s typical drive to work starts from Espana Boulevard all the way to Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. During inclement weather, he would drive through various streets of Manila, dodging floods and traffic, only to be stalled in a gridlock due to knee-high floodwater.

(Top) A young man has his blood pressure taken for free using the RxBox in the ongoing 2015 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. A project of the UP Manila-National Telehealth Center and DOST’s Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, RxBox is a portable medical device for taking a patient’s ECG, heart rate, blood, pulse rate, and blood oxygenation. It allows medical experts to assist in the management of patients in rural areas thru video consultation and by storing patient data and transmitting this info via the Internet. Schoolchildren try the Shaking Table which simulates the shaking motion of an earthquake on the opening day of the 2015 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. NSTW is organized by the Department of Science and Technology and features interactive exhibits, scale models, robotics, local inventions, product displays from small enterprises, career talks and fora on science and technology, among others. The Shaking Table is one of the many exciting learning tools and features in the event which runs from July 24-28, 2015. Admission is free.
