DOST-SEI, BPI Foundation ink partnership for ‘new’ Innovation Awards

The BPI-DOST Science Awards is no more.
And in comes a “new and revitalized” BPI-DOST Innovation Awards.
This, as the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and the BPI Foundation, Inc. (BPIF), the social development arm of the Bank of the Philippine Islands, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the BPI-DOST Innovation Awards, a competition that aims to challenge bright Filipino students to actively participate in resolving problems in the community through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Innovation is not just technologies, says national academician

“It is an innovation of systems, not just technologies,” Academician Willam G. Padolina, said during the turnover ceremonies of the Pagtanaw 2050 at the 2021 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration, when asked how the science, technology and innovation (STI) strategic plan can be operationalized.
Padolina explained that innovation has to be understood in the context wherein it is composed of systems and not merely technologies – that there’s a need to change the systems. There’s a need to innovate in governance, and businesses has to innovate its processes and manage its risk, and that everyone will have to do their part.

Lagundi and VCO studies show encouraging results against COVID
The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) announced the results of its two studies aimed to see the efficacy of Lagundi and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) against COVID-19.
This was revealed through a webinar conducted in celebration of the 2021 National Science and Technology Week on November 25, 2021.
