Pagtanaw 2050: The Philippine Foresight on science, technology, and innovation, a 360-page compendium of technologies with 550 bibliographic references, is a national strategic plan, crafted by 335 various representative stakeholders from 53 government and higher education institutions, and 12 non-government organizations coming from all over the country.

“It is an innovation of systems, not just technologies,” Academician William G. Padolina, said during the turnover ceremonies of the Pagtanaw 2050 at the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration, when asked how the science, technology and innovation (STI) strategic plan can be operationalized.

In celebration of the National Science and Technology Week #2021NSTW, the Department of Science and Technology – Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) kicks off the festivities through the "Kooha: A Social Sensing Network Application (Explore the Koohascape)" webinar.

Kooha which was coined from the Filipino word “kuha” which means to take or capture, is a photo-sharing application that enables real-time participatory photo and sensor data collection using mobile devices. Kooha is an initiative of the DOST-ASTI, developed by Filipino scientists and engineers for the benefit of Filipino citizens.

One of the many interesting innovations during the opening day of the 2021 National Science and Technology Week celebration (#2021NSTW) was on 3D design and development. 

The two-hour webinar session was conducted by the Department of Science and Technology – Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST – ITDI) that focused on aiding medical institutions by providing solutions during this pandemic with coaching and mentoring workshops on design and production of medical equipment parts titled “Creating Hope with MATDEV”.

Relishing its accomplishments despite the many hurdles, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña was elated to present the notable successes of the Science Department during the opening of the 2021 National Science and Technology Week (2021 NSTW).

De la Peña pointed out that from 2016 to 2021, the DOST has completed the development of various state-of-the-art development facilities and laboratories starting with the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen), a rapid prototyping facility for the manufacturing industry to fast-track prototyping through the use of advanced 3D printing technology.
