6th National R&D Conference features DOST-PAGASA’s SWERVE project on wind hazard

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) plans on expanding the access of Severe Wind Estimation of Risk Using Vulnerability and Exposure (SWERVE) tool nationwide to save lives during a typhoon.
According to Karlo J. Timbal from the Impact Assessment and Application Section (IAAS) of the Climatology and Agrometeorology Division of DOST-PAGASA, at present, the tool is being used for certain local government units (LGUs) that have the surveyed exposure data and the agency is now working on making the SWERVE tool available to everyone.

R&D project on queen pineapple in CamNorte pushed

In less than a year, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)'s Niche Centers in the Region for Research & Development (NICER) Program has initiated the establishment of the Queen Pineapple Research and Development Center in Camarines Norte and has now exceeded more than half of its target on its first year and moving forward.

The program is being funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the DOST (DOST-PCAARRD) and it focuses more on the development of farm pest detection, general assessment, and mapping.

FastPass contract tracing app helps LGUs manage movement of travelers to Ilocos Norte and La Union

Ilocos Norte and La Union have welcomed an increasing number of visitors and tourists since September this year and is now bracing for an influx of more tourists as the quarantine restriction has been relaxed by the IATF to Alert Level 2 this November, along with Metro Manila and other regions.
Because of the change in quarantine restrictions and greater movement of people has been allowed, like in any other major municipalities, the entire Region I of Ilocos developed and implemented their own contact tracing management system.
