Science and technology (S&T) scholars from the Eastern Visayas received awards from the Department of Science and Technology- Region 8 for outstanding accomplishments in academics. The awarding night, titled “In Touch With Excellence”, was held May 10 at the Hotel Alejandro. Awarded for academic excellence were five magna cum laudeand 17 cum laude graduates, including five board placers, from various state tertiary schools in the region.

Editha de Guzman had, for about seven years, struggled with knee arthritis which limited her mobility and caused her excruciating pain in the last year. When she was in Canada where one of her daughters lives, she wouldn’t go out with her friends and instead, just stayed home watching TV. Mornings were especially trying as she struggled to get up from bed with difficulty. In the middle of the night, she would wake up to answer nature’s call but had to crawl all the way to the bathroom, as she didn’t want to wake up any of her children.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Mario G. Montejo, DOST Undersecretary for Scientific and Technological Services Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, DOST Region III Director Julius Caesar V. Sicat and Philippine Science High School- Central Luzon Campus (PSHS-CLC) Director Lilia T. Habacon lead the unveiling and blessing of PSHS-CLC’s insignia, The Alchemy, as the 11th campus of PSHS System last April 13, 2016 during the Science Nation Tour (SNT) leg in Region III. The Alchemy represents the burning power of the enlightened consciousness and passion for excellence that the PSHS-CLC imparts to its scholars. The unveiling was also attended by board members, guests, students, and members of the General Parents and Teachers Association of the PSHS System; representatives from the DOST, Department of Trade and Industry, and Bases Conversion and Development Authority; and the national and local media.
