In a bid to advance health in the Philippines, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) introduces a research program on functional foods focusing on locally available agricultural commodities such as sugarcane, pulses, and cacao products, to enhance the health and well-being of Filipinos.
The DOST Niche Centers in the Regions (NICER) for R&D Program or DOST-NICER funded a research program with an approved budget of PhP190 Million, titled SPC-FUEL for Health, which stands for Sugarcane, Pulses, and Cacao Products from Functional Food Innovations to Enhance Life. This research program is implemented by the University of San Agustin (USA) in Iloilo City in collaboration with the University of St. La Salle (USLS) in Bacolod City.

NAST PHL mourns the passing of National Scientist Baltazar

The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) mourns the passing of National Scientist Clare R. Baltazar, who peacefully departed on 13 July 2024.
National Scientist Baltazar consistently maintained outstandingly high standards of achievement throughout her academic life. Her numerous publications on Philippine insects, especially on Philippine Hymenoptera, were very significant to science as they laid the groundwork for future biological control in the Philippines.

14 Asia-Pacific countries to compete in the International Nuclear Olympiad in the Philippines

The Philippines will be the battleground for the brightest young minds from 14 countries in the Asia-Pacific region as the first-ever International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) takes center stage from July 31 to August 7, 2024, at the National Government Administrative Center in New Clark Center in Capas, Tarlac.

The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) marked the 50th year of the DOST-FNRI Seminar Series (FSS) with focus on curbing malnutrition, empowering the youth, and promoting the nutritional well-being of Filipinos.
Themed “Golden Year of DOST-FNRI Seminar Series”, the two-day event was held from 3-4 July 2024 at the Sheraton Manila Hotel in Pasay City.
The seminar series is an annual initiative of DOST-FNRI that aims to disseminate completed research and development outputs and science and technology activities among stakeholders in the food and nutrition community, allied fields, and the general public.
