DOST-PCHRD launches Philippine Brain Research Agenda 2024-2028 to address R&D gaps in neuroscience

Marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to ensure that brain health becomes a central focus of the country's health research priorities, the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) officially launched the Philippine Brain Research Agenda (PBRA) 2024-2028 today, 15 August 2024, during the 17th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week at Almont Inland Resort, Butuan City.
"Research and development in mental health primarily focused on psychological and social dimensions. While these areas are undeniably important, there is an equally vital component of MH that demands our attention: the biological aspect, particularly the brain," emphasized Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, Executive Director of DOST-PCHRD and lead coordinator of PNHRS.

The term “nuclear” often brings to mind negative connotations such as disasters, wars, weapons of mass destruction, and hazardous waste. However, it's crucial to shift this perception, as nuclear science also plays a vital role in advancing various societal sectors, including energy, medicine, agriculture, and the environment.
For nuclear experts in the Asia-Pacific region, the key is to start them young. This prompted the establishment of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO), a nuclear S&T competition aimed at promoting the peaceful applications of nuclear S&T.

2024 NYSTIF: DOST brings back youth science fest to promote STEM careers

The Department of Science and Technology invites the public to join the 2nd National Youth Science, Technology, and Innovation Festival from 18-21 September 2024 at The PICC Forum Tent, Pasay City.
Building on its successful debut last year, the National Youth Science, Technology, and Innovation Festival (NYSTIF) organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is set to return for its second edition on 18-21 September 2024 at The Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum Tent in Pasay City.
With the theme “STEM VIBE: Engaging the Youth in Providing Solutions and Opening Opportunities, this science festival aims to enhance youth appreciation and awareness of science, technology, and innovation (STI). It will allow the youth to experience science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a vibrant, innovative, brilliant, and engaging (VIBE) way to inspire them to pursue careers in these fields.

DOST bares three techs to solve Philippines’ plastic concerns

To reduce problems resulting from the Philippines’ dependence on plastic, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) unveiled three technologies that aim to solve plastic related concerns.
The DOST through the DOST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) Startup Grant Fund (SGF) Program, supported the research and development conducted by three (3) startup companies which generated these technologies with a total funding of P13 million.
