Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon: DOST Region V jumpstarts virtual 2021 S&T Week in Bicol

Once again, the Department of Science and Technology takes science, technology and innovation cyber center stage as the virtual 2021 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) Celebration will be held from 22-28 November 2021. With the theme “Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon”, this year’s S&T Week continues the resounding success of the first virtual NSTW in 2020.
As a prelude to this event, DOST Region V will conduct the Pre-NSTW Celebration back-to-back with the Bicol Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (BRICE) on 12-14 October 2021 via virtual platforms. With the limitations posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, DOST-V cascades the myriad activities of the Pre-NSTW to the Bicolanos at the comfort of their digital devices, computers and smartphones, at home or in the office.

DOST-NCR eCaravan pushes for industry competitiveness through SETUP 4.0

Pushing the local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) towards smarter and resilient industry players, the Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region held the virtual kickoff for the Small Enterprise Upgrading Program (DOST-NCR SETUP) e-Caravan, a week-long series of virtual and face-to-face activities to promote the upgraded services of SETUP 4.0.
The SETUP e-Caravan presents the various technology assistance for the MSMEs which include capacity building, technology upgrading, consultancies, and manufacturing enhancement assistance, especially during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maya-3 and Maya-4 now flying high as space technology takes up space in the upcoming Science Week

The country is flying high with its aggressive thrust of harnessing the power of space technology by developing microsatellites, cube satellites, and nanosatellites that can be used for various applications.
Maya-3 and Maya-4, the first Philippine university-built cube satellites (CubeSats), are now in orbit after their successful deployment from the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday, 06 October 2021. The so-called ‘cousin’ of these two cube satellites is Maya-1 which is the first Filipino cube satellite that was developed under the Philippine Scientific Earth Observation Microsatellite program (PHL-Microsat).
ICT enabled products and services provide major boost to local health sector

The Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) enabled products and services have become even more relevant and necessary for the local health sector especially during the COVID-19 pandemic as the government seeks alternative and safer means to provide health related services to its citizenry as well as to healthcare workers.
In a virtual discussion dubbed, “Talakayang HeaRT Beat on ICT for Health Projects” held on 29 September 2021, four projects supported by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCHRD) were featured. Two of which happen to have found novel and noble purposes during the pandemic.
