Students enjoy learning the concept of a tsunami through an interactive scale model representation displayed at the Disaster Management and Climate Change exhibit area during the opening of the Department of Science and Technology’s 2015 National Science and Technology Week celebration at SMX Convention Center, SM MOA, Pasay City. The weeklong celebration from July 24-28, 2015 highlighted the latest technological developments and researches in various areas of health, education, agriculture, industry development, small and medium enterprises, information and communications technology, e-governance and connectivity, and disaster management and climate change. Dr. Carlos Primo C. David, executive director of the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technologies Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), challenged the Eastern Visayas academia as he administered the oath taking ceremonies of the new Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry and Energy Research and Development (EVCIERD) officers.
EVCIERD is a consortium of universities in Eastern Visayas doing various research and development projects to further the development of the region through science and technology. The new officers is led by Eastern Visayas State University President Dominador Aguirre.

The Filipino ingenuity and creative talent are shown in the uniquely designed Barong Tagalong and blouse using indigenous materials like banana fibers which went through rigid research and testing by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Industry (DOST-PTRI). PTRI is involved in the research of alternative textile materials and natural dyes using technologies that produce eco-friendly and suitable clothing materials ideal for the tropical climate of the Philippines and for possible export. Other clothing and textile technologies are featured in DOST’s National Science and Technology Week ongoing until July 28, 2015 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. The traditional handloom weaving machine sports a new and sleek design as modified by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) using a mixture of metal and wood that makes it more efficient in weaving the web of life using natural dyed fibers from abaca, banana and other plant materials. This is featured in the PTRI booth at the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) which will run until July 28, 2015 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. Another innovation exhibited is the PTRI Innovation Center that showcases modern textile and fiber dye technologies. NSTW 2015 is open from 9:00am to 6:00pm and admission is free.
