SAN CARLOS, PANGASINAN- Three universities in Pangasinan now have access to the country’s first digital science library being the new recipients of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Science and Technology Academic and Research-based Openly Operated Kiosk Station or STARBOOKS.

Developed by experts from DOST’s Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST- STII), STARBOOKS is a standalone, one-stop information source, containing thousands of S&T resources in various formats- text and audio or video, placed in especially designed pods made with user- friendly interface.

It is now the Department of Science and Technology- Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s (DOST- ARMM) turn to showcase the biggest and latest breakthroughs in S&T in the upcoming celebration of 2015 DOST- ARMM Science and Technology Week.

To run October 8- 10, 2015 at the Alnor Convention Center in Cotabato City, the event will feature DOST’s S&T programs and interventions and local inventions, bearing the theme Philippines: A Science Nation Innovating for Global Competitiveness.

Parallel to the S&T fair is the 2015 ARMM Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE), a nationwide activity conducted in different regions to recognize the creativity of Filipino inventors in the country.

“Agham na Ramdam!” is the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) mantra in making Filipinos feel and experience the impact of science and technology (S&T) in their daily lives. Now ii is the monicker of DOST’s latest information campaign, and is all set to rally the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) as DOST’s Science Nation Tour goes to Baguio City for its next leg on October 6-8, 2015.

Science Nation Tour is a national roadshow which aims to promote and expand DOST’s programs, projects and services in every region of the country.

DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo will lead the campaign which aims to showcase DOST-developed  scientific and technological advancements in the region.

The government goes beyond hazards maps as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) ventures out to far-reaching applications of its Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology as it maps out possible renewable energy resources through the PhiLiDAR project.

The PhiLiDAR project is actually an expansion project of the Disaster Risks Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation program which originally aims to produce 3D flood and hazard maps for the 18 major river systems of the country.

With the vast potential of its generated information resources, several applications, including the identification of mining resources and renewable energy, were lined up in the top list for exploration.
