July was marked as the National Disaster Resiliency Month and with this, the Department of Science and Technology – CALABARZON (DOST-CALABARZON) took this opportunity to hold the Technology Opportunity Seminar (TechOpS) on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) technologies for the 24 city and municipal DRRM officers in Cavite.

Myka Rice Mill, a business based in Pres. M.A. Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte recently received assistance amounting to Php 455,000.00 for equipment and productivity upgrades from the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office IX (DOST-IX), through the agency’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

The Legazpi City Abattoir in San Roque, Legazpi City—the biggest and most modern in Bicol Region—is now rising to become the first abattoir in the region to embrace biogas technology. This collaborative project titled Piloting of Biogas Technology for Thermo-Electro-Mechanical Applications for the Legazpi City Abattoir was made possible through the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office V (DOST-V), the Provincial S&T Center – Albay, and the Local Government of Legazpi City. 

With COVID-19 cases still present in the province of Camarines Sur, the Bula Masarig Engineered Bamboo, one of the top manufacturers of bamboo-made products in the province, shifted its operation to produce face shields with frames made from kauayan- tinik. The kauayan-tinik is a perennial, woody-stemmed grass known for its versatility.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has been championing the development of innovative technologies, implementing projects and programs, and providing services to address issues and concerns on the environment and particularly on solid waste management.
