Last year, Taal volcano literally started the year with a bang. It resulted in the suspension of school classes and work and suspended local flights in the area above as the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) issued Alert Level 4 on the afternoon of 12 January 2020. The scenario indicated “possible hazardous explosive eruption within hours to days."

“The toxicity of food additives is generally low.”
This was according to Rose Elaine E. Placio-Guilaran, a science research specialist from the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), who discussed Food Additives: Uses and Safety during the DOST-Caraga’s webinar for the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) held recently.

The time to reminisce the 63 years of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) was made near perfect over a cup of coffee when Secretary Fortunato ‘Boy’ T. de la Peña who talked about the many accomplishments of the department during a live online special conversation dubbed as “Coffee Chat with Sec Boy” aired on 15 June 2021 over DOST Philippines Facebook page.

The DOST-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) marks another milestone as it celebrates its 64th Anniversary this 5-9 July 2021.
