"Imagine an endangered language now available on your smartphone."

This is according to Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, Undersecretary for Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in her remarks during the zoom presentation of the Language Preservation and Documentation of Hanunoo: Saving the Mangyan Culture, a presentation of research funded by the DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP).

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST-I) through the Provincial Science and Technology Center- La Union (PSTC-LU) awarded STARBOOKS units and devices to school-beneficiaries in Santol, La Union.

The Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program, under the Human Resource Development, aims to bridge technological gaps and helps the schools in the area to adapt with pedagogic advancement.

A training-seminar focused on the ICT skills of the teachers was held last year that gauged and improved their utilization of computer software and application. 

Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Negros Oriental granted PhP 2.3 million to Kawayan Collective, a bamboo processing facility located in Dauin, Negros Oriental.

The funds will be used to build an eco-dryer designed by DOST-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI). The project also covers the procurement of a blade sharpening machine, drum sander, and laminating hot press machine.

“The project aims to enable the efficient and sustainable local production of innovative engineered bamboo products primarily for the domestic market while developing the capacity and skill-level of local suppliers—they would be able to process, treat and distribute beautiful, durable, Filipino bamboo as a sustainable construction material,” said Atty. Gilbert R. Arbon, Provincial Science and Technology Center-Negros Oriental director.

The Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST-1) assists Balungao Patupat and Tuba Vendors Association (BPTVA) to improve existing local products offered by the locals of Balungao, through different technological interventions such as acquisition of appropriate equipment, packaging and labeling, product development and product standards and testing.

The association has 11 stalls identified in Barangay San Aurelio, first along the Balungao-Umingan road, which have been selling Sweet Tuba and Patupat along the highway since the early 90s.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña recently visited the DOST Technology in the Region for Upscaling of Community Knowledge (DOSTRUCK) Site, a mobile food processing hub developed and designed by the DOST-CALABARZON in collaboration with the DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC).

The visit is part of the two-day project visit of Sec. de la Peña held last 22-23 February 2022 to select DOST-CALABARZON’s science and technology projects and partnerships in the region, one of which involves coffee.
