The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office IX (DOST-IX), together with the consultants from Quality Partners Company, Ltd., successfully conducted the “Year 1: Cycle 1: Phase 3 – GROW” training for the selected 20 DOST technical staff from the 16 DOST Regional Offices in the country under the DOST-PCIEERD-funded project “Knowledge Transfer (KT) to DTS: Catalysts to MSMEs’ Gaining PQA for SMEs” from 31 January – 07 February, 2022. PCIEERD or the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development is one of the sectoral councils of the DOST. 

Some ninety (90) research enthusiasts have recently participated in the online session on Intellectual Property (IP) conducted by the Zamboanga Consortium for Health Research and Development (ZCHRD) and the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The webinar focused on the concepts of IPs and related aspects such as patents, utility models, copyrights, trademarks, and similar concerns.

With the vision of establishing the Davao Food Terminal Complex (DFTC) as the first hub of packaging technology transfer for fresh and semi-processed agricultural produce in Mindanao, the Department of Science and Technology-Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) Packaging Technology Division and DOST Region XI, signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao City for the implementation of the DOST-DFTC Project on 18 January 2022 via Zoom platform.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of food security, food safety, and self-sufficiency among nations. With the growing demand for food, the advancement and tremendous scope in the field of Food Science and Technology has been very promising in addressing the following concerns: improvement in the quality of food, food safety, elimination of diseases, food security, affordability costs of food items, better preservation techniques, and lesser food wastage, among others.

Food technology ensures sustainable food production systems and implements resilient practices that increase productivity, which as a result, strengthens the capacity of communities to produce alternative food choices and maintain the expansion of our current food supply.

The Department of Science and Technology Region I (DOST-IO), under its Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) program, launched a feeding program to improve the nutritional status of children from Barangay Diaz, Palisoc, and Vacante in Bautista, Pangasinan.
